About Jubbal

Jubbal is quaint little town in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 41kms from Shimla. This small hilly town is popular for Jubbal Palace and its apple orchards. The hills of Jubbal are covered with  thick woods and dense Deodar trees and has beautiful and vast landscape. The presence of Pabbar  river adds to the beauty of this town. This place is hardly crowded and is an ideal spot for trekking. You can also enjoy angling opportunities which can be done at Chandan Nahar Lake.

Geography of Jubbal

Jubbal has an Latitude  of 31.1094667°N  and Longitude of 77.6629967°E. It  has an average elevation of 2200 meters. It has an area of about 710 sq.kms.  Jubbal Tehsil is surrounded by Nankhari Tehsil towards North, Theog Tehsil towards west, Chaupal Tehsil towards South, Narkanda Tehsil towards North. This town has the Pabbar river flowing through it.

It has a population of about 33,649 living in 6,990 Houses with 17,323 being the male population and 16,326 being the female population. This population is spread across total 307 villages and 49 panchayats.

Jubbal has an average temperature of about 16 ° C to 35° C during Summer making it an ideal time to visit this place. During winters, Jubbal receives heavy rainfall and is not very feasible to visit. During monsoon season, this region is very crowded due to the movement of apple tucks.

History of Jubbal

Jubbal is among the 18 thakuries in Himachal Pradesh. It is located in the valleys of Sutlej, Pabbar and Giri and it held great importance. Jubbal rulers belonged to the Rathore clan. The princely state of Jubbal was founded in 1800. The rulers of Jubbal are as follows:

Jubbal also has the history of giving the state of Himachal Pradesh a Chief Minister, late Thakur Ram Lal. He was the Chief Minister from 1975 to 1977 and again from 1980 to 1982. The town is also home of the famous Bollywood actress Priety Zinta.

Culture of Jubbal

People of Jubbal are very enthusiastic and they burst into celebration at every opportunity. Pahari is the local language there. However Hindi and Punjabi is also spoke widely. Jubbal is very popular for its apple orchards and makes it one of their main source of income.There are many festivals celebrated in Jubbal which includes Hariyali, Hemis and Rampur Jatar Festivals which are celebrated in the month of June and July.

Haryali festival is also known  by the name  Shegtsum in Jubbal. This festival is celebrated on the first Sawan which is on 16th July. Before this festival begins, five to seven different types of grains are sown together in a pot by any member of the family and is placed near the place of the household deities. The household deities are offered Stems and they are kept on the upper frame of the door. Blood sucking insects like Flees, Bugs,Lice, etc. are burnt with cow dung balls. People dance and sing during this festival

Local festivals, Birth, crop harvests, marriage are all accompanied by different kinds of dances. Sih is a dance drama form from Jubbal. Due to all these characteristics, Jubbal has an elite and royal feel that cannot be found elsewhere in the state.

Jubbal does not have many restaurants to eat. So you have to manage in the restaurants in your hotels which serve Punjabi, Chinese and other cuisines as well. Transport in Jubbal

Jubbal is connected to other cities and towns by road. Theog - Hatkoti- Rohru road is the main road connecting it to other important towns like Hatkoti Rohru etc. Jubbal road is another famous road in Jubbal which has almost everything from the market to shopping and Jubbal palace  is also located on the same road.

Jubbal does not have a railway station or an airport. However, Shimla airport and Shimla station is the nearest available option, if you planning to travel by train or air. The best way to explore the town of Jubbal  is on your foot. The locals are warm enough to guide you in case you lose your way.
